Olympic Villages: a hundred years of urban planning and shared experiences: International Symposium on Olympic Villages, Lausanne, 1996

Miquel de Moragas, Montserrat Llinés; Bruce Kidd (eds.)

1997

The book contains a selection of debates and a compilation of papers presented at the 2nd Symposium of the International Chair in Olympism (IOC-UAB) on Olympic Villages, held in November 1996 at the Olympic Museum Lausanne. The urban planning of Olympic Villages, their organisation during the celebration of the Olympic Games and the experiences shared by athletes at Olympic Villages were the main themes analysed by 80 attendees.

The book is divided into two thematic areas. The first focuses on the urban planning of Olympic Villages and their historical evolution and typology, and it contains detailed references to the experiences of Albertville 1992 and Salt Lake City 2002. The second focuses on the day-to-day organisation of athletes residing at Olympic Villages, the Olympic Village requirements that the IOC places on organising committees, and Olympic Village management experiences.
