Susan Brownell
International Chair in Olympism. Invited professor 2007
Dr. Brownell is an internationally recognized expert on Chinese sports. She has been researching Chinese sports for over twenty years, beginning with her experience as a college athlete in China in 1985. She is the author of Training the Body for China: Sports in the Moral Order of the People’s Republic , and Beijing’s Games: What the Olympics Mean to China. She is a member of the Selection Committee of the Olympic Studies Centre, Lausanne. She is Professor and Chair of the Anthropology Department at the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
Dr. Brownell was appointed as visiting professor of the International Chair in Olympism in 2007. During her stay in the CEO-UAB a series of activities included were organized: a research seminar about China, the culture and the Olympic Games, celebrated in the Faculty of Communication (UAB); a round table The Olympic Games of Beijing 2008: challenges and opportunities in the area of the communication, organized together with the School of Journalists of Catalonia; the inaugural Lecture of the academic year 2007/08 of the CEO-UAB: The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games: the Games will change China or China will change the Games? celebrated in the Museum and Center of Studies of the Sport Dr. Melcior Colet and a class in the INEFC: The values of the Chinese culture and sport: a cultural prospect of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
